The current Outreach Team consist of Laura Watts and Becs Vince. Laura and Becs are highly committed and experienced teachers who have spent the best part of the last 25 years educating and supporting children with diverse needs. They have worked in both mainstream and special school settings and have taught children from pre-school to post 16. Their area of expertise include Autism; Downs Syndrome, Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties; Speech, Language and Communication Difficulties and Emotional and Behavioral Difficulties.
Hampshire County Council (HCC) have commissioned Shepherds Down School Outreach Service to work in partnership with their local mainstream primary schools to provide specialist support to help building capacity and confidence in meeting the needs of their pupils with SEND and to support the effective implementation of HCC’s Education and Inclusion Policies. The service is free of charge to Hampshire maintained schools
Overarching objectives of the Outreach service are:
- To promote, support and sustain inclusion and inclusive educational practices within mainstream settings to enable staff to maximize children’s potential
- To work together with mainstream schools to build up capacity, to build confidence and to support placements which will provide for greater diversity of special educational and curricular needs
The Outreach team offer a friendly and approachable referral-based service. Examples of support offered:
- Consultation with SENCO / SLT
- Observations of child – to inform future action to be implemented to improve outcomes
- Consultation with key class team members
- Workshops & training
- Staff in-reach visit to specialist setting for key school staff
- Signposting to external agencies
Our Outreach Consultant Teachers have a wealth of experience from careers working in both specialist and mainstream settings across all age ranges, from pre-school to Post 16.
Our Outreach provision focuses on pupils with a learning disability (LD) and autism
We are not able to accept referrals where schools are already receiving support from HCC commissioned specialist advisors, Primary Behavior Service (PBS), Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) or where SEMH is the main area of need
