Our Governing Body
A message from the Chair
Welcome to the Shepherds Down School website.
I hope that you find it interesting and informative and that it gives you an interesting overview of the activities and ethos of the school.
The Governing Body consists of 13 Governors, who between them represent the parents, the staff, the local community and the local authority. With the exception of the Headteacher and Staff Governors, the Governors give their time on an unpaid voluntary basis and they have no day to day managerial responsibilities within the school. However, they are responsible for ensuring that the school meets its various fiscal and statutory obligations.
Shepherds Down School has a very active Governing Body, which meets at least once every half to review all aspects of the school’s activities and performance. The role of the Governing Body is to provide support and challenge to the school leadership team. A Finance Committee Team keep a watching eye on the school’s finances, ensuring that every penny spent is wisely and in line with public finance standards. Beyond this, a number of Governors take individual responsibility for particular activities such as Governor training, safeguarding and staff well-being.
Shepherds Down is a thriving community and the Governors support the school in its activities when they can. Governors regularly visit the school in school hours to learn more about the children that the school educates and their ever-changing needs. Collectively, they play an important role within the school and everything they do is designed to provide the best possible environment in which the children can develop and thrive.
We are delighted to be able to support Shepherds Down School as it gives children with complex needs the best start to their education.
